GDC Councilors, 748 UDP Supporters Defects to President Barrow’s Camp.

Gambia Democratic Party (GDC) has suffered serious setbacks in its efforts to consolidate powers across the country with the defection of Alpha Khan, Vice Chairman of Kerewan Area Council (KAC) and Amadou Bah, Ward Councilor for Medina, while seven hundred and forty eight (748) UDP supporters from Darsilami Ward also cross-carpeted to the President camp.

The duo has disclosed their defection to President Barrow’s Camp at a mass rally held at Kuntair in Jokadu District of North Bank Region.

The defection of the key members of the Gambia Democratic Party (GDC) comes on the heels of President Adama Barrow ‘Meet the People Tour’ meant to engage Gambians on government policies and programs as well give chance to the President to have  hand first  information on how matters prevail across the country.

“In our midst here we have seven hundred and forty eight (748) UDP supporters from Darsilami Ward who have decided to cross-carpeted and now join the President Barrow Fans Club. We also have one hundred and fifty (150) GDC supporters including the Vice Chairman of Kerewan Area Council and Ward Councilor for Medina who are also here to announced their defection, support and loyalty to President Barrow Fans Club”, said Alagie Musa Bah, Chairman Barrow Fans Club in Jokadou.

Speaking before the President of the Republic, Alpha Khan, vice chairman of Kerewan Area Council (KAC) said, he has resigned from the Gambia Democratic Party (GDC) and is now fully   supporting President Barrow Fans Club and President Adama Barrow, adding that he as a representative of the people is not afraid to go   bye-election.

“Am ready to go for bye-election to prove to the people of The Gambia that it is not the popularity of GDC that gives me this seat but my own popularity”, KAC, Vice Chairman disclosed before  President Barrow.

Khan said it was his former party that used to dominate elections at Jokadu, adding that if elections were to be held today, GDC will not win even 5% of the votes.

“I want to affirm my total support and loyalty to President Adama Barrow. This is the man who brought electricity to my people, which has impacted positively on our livelihood. Am also supporting him for been on the right track to cementing our fruitful relationship with our neighboring country Senegal”, Councilor Bah forward as reasons for his defection to President Barrow’s Camp.

He added: “My second term doesn’t interest me much, I am not afraid to lose my seat, my only concern now is   how to help the President in his national development priorities”.

The Medina Ward Councilor called on his teeming supporters to rally behind President Adama Barrow in fulfilling his promises of national development, adding that President Barrow is the right choice for the country that is out to usher in a New Gambia for all.
