National Training of Trainers on Nutrition in Emergency Preparedness

 

A-five-day national training of trainers on nutrition in emergency preparedness and response organized by health promotion of the ministry of health in collaboration with other stakeholders is currently underway at NaNA in Kanifing.

The main objective of training according to the organisers, is to equip the participants about the requisite knowledge of unforeseen emergencies such as man-made or natural disasters and how to mitigate it as health experts as far as nutrition is concerned.

Modou Njai, the communications officer at Health Promotion under the Ministry of Health and Social welfare explained the significance of the training, while challenging the participants to take the training seriously with utmost responsibility.

Njai said participation and expertise of every participant during the training, is fundamental in this crusade as it will enable them to share valuable ideas in order to come up with intelligence approach in mitigating unforeseeable emergency as health experts.

Dr Shahid Mahbub Awan, head of UNICEF Child Survival and Development desk described the training as “critical and timely,” noting that the training will be done in a participatory manner and also to know the context of the training.

Effective participation of all participants according to Dr Shahid, is crucial during this five-day training as it will enable all stakeholders to share ideas and learn more about emergency disaster management.

 

Alhaji Sering Modou Joof is the deputy director of National Disaster Management Agency who gave records of disaster emergency, while explaining the efforts needed in mitigating such as far as nutrition is concerned.

Coordination, collaboration and effective communication, according to the National Disaster Management deputy boss are the fundamental mechanism in mitigating unforeseeable disaster emergency, while highlighting the principles of nutrition emergency which he said mainly affects children and women
