Exercise, Freedoms is inseparable-NCCE Officials

The officials at the NCCE underscored that exercise, freedom and enjoyment of rights are inseparable from the performance of duties and obligations as stated in the sections 220 of the 1997 Constitution.

The chairman of the NCCE, Alhajie Sering Faye speaking at various sensitization forums on Democracy, Political Pluralism, Tolerance, Civic Rights and Duties within the communities of Kundam in Tumana and Bagakady in Jimara Districts all in the URR highlighted the significant of the synergy.

Organized by his office in partnership with TANGO and UNDEF as funding agent with the theme: “Strengthening Human Rights and Good Governance in The Gambia”.

Mr. Faye encouraged all Gambians despite their political, geographical, and religious affiliation to learn to tolerate and respect each other and build bridges across to pursue the common good of all citizens.

According to him, there are lots of misconceptions and misrepresentation of Democracy and Good Governance as well as rights and duties of citizens.

“NCCE, TANGO and UNDEF deemed it very important to conduct this country wide awareness sensitization on Democracy, Political Pluralism, Tolerance, Civic Rights and Duties,” Faye informed URR communities.

Yusupha Bojang , Senior Program officer at NCCE informed the people of URR that Tolerance and Respect for the rule of law and authority are critical in the promotion of democracy, Peace and social cohesion.

Bojang said democracy calls for rule of law and he therefore said no situation should warrant Gambians to take the law into their own hands, as there are several legal mechanisms to utilize to peacefully access to justice.

He urged al Gambians and non-Gambians alike to promote the prestige and good reputation of The Gambia thus uphold and defend the rights, freedom and legitimate interest of others.
